25 hours as PIC in the Phenom 100 under the direct observation of a pilot holding the EMB-500 without limitations (14 CFR 61.64(g)), each flight attested in writing → administrative removal, no checkride. Mentor time your insurer required usually doubles as the SOE — if the paperwork was done right.
The EMB-500 SOE, in plain English
The EMB-500 is the type rating for the Embraer Phenom 100 series — the entry-level jet that pulled a generation of Cirrus, Meridian, and TBM owners into turbine ownership. It's certified single-pilot, the type course runs in a full-flight simulator, and under 14 CFR 61.64(f)(2) a first jet type almost always prints with the SOE limitation: step-up owners rarely arrive with the prior turbojet type or the 1,000 hours in two turbojets that §61.64(b) would need to skip it. Until removal, you act as PIC only under the direct observation of a pilot holding the EMB-500 without limitations.
The Phenom 100 mentor problem
Like the Phenom 300, your insurance mentor time usually doubles as your SOE. The wrinkle specific to the 100: the fleet is smaller, so the pool of pilots holding an unrestricted EMB-500 is smaller too — and the EMB-500 and EMB-505 are different type ratings. A Phenom 300 mentor with an unrestricted EMB-505 cannot supervise your EMB-500 SOE unless they also hold the 500 without limitations (§61.64(g)(1)). This is worth confirming before hour one, because 25 hours flown with the wrong mentor count for your insurance policy and for nothing else.
The other three requirements are the same as any type-rating SOE: you perform the duties of PIC on each flight (§61.64(g)(3)), each flight is logged, and the mentor attests in writing to each one (§61.64(g)(2)). Use the sample attestation wording (PDF) and the logbook takes care of itself.
We've been through Phenom 100 logbooks before
Daytona DPE has processed EMB-500 SOE removals, and the pre-appointment document review exists because of what those logbooks taught us: mentor entries logged as instruction given with no supervised-PIC attestation, attestations that name the airplane but not the flight, and owner electronic logbooks where the mentor's signoff never made it out of a text message. All fixable — before the appointment, at no charge. Send everything with the intake documents and you'll get a straight answer on eligibility before you've paid anything.
